6.2 quake hits Surigao del Norte

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit the province of Surigao Del Norte Friday night.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the quake at 39km northeast of Burgos, Surigao Del Norte around 11:06 pm.
The offshore quake, tectonic in origin, has a depth of 17 km.
State Science Research Assistant Karren Garcia said based on their monitoring quake was possibly caused by movement of the Phillippine trench.
Garcia said intensity V was reported in areas of Burgos, Dapa, Alegria, Bacuag, Claver, General Luna, Gigaquit, Pilar, Placer and San Benito, Surigao Del Norte; Surigao City; San Jose, Dinagat.
Intensity IV were recorded in Butuan City, Malimono, Surigao Del Norte; Tacloban City, Abuyog and Palo, Leyte, Anahawan, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, Limasawa, San Francisco, San Ricardo, San Juan, and Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte; San Francisco, Agusan Del Norte.
While Intensity III was monitored in Gingoog City, Tandag City, Salcedo, Eastern Samar; Intensity II in Bislig City, Cagayan De Oro City, Ormoc City, Mambajao and Mahinog, Camiguin and Intensity I in Davao City.
Despite the recorded intensities, Phivolcs no damage is expected while aftershocks may be experienced. Robina Asido/DMS
