DAVAO CITY-- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe left this city at 12:43 pm Friday as he ended his overnight official visit to the Philippines.
Abe and his wife had breakfast at the home of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. In photos taken by Special Assistant to the President Secretary Christopher "Bong" Go, Duterte even brought Abe to his bedroom with the white mosquito net he has been using.
"The four of us went to the room of PRRD (initials of Duterte). We're about 10 minutes there," Go said in a text message to reporters. The other one inside the room was Abe's interpreter.
Go said the President and his partner, Cieleto "Honeylet" Avanceña, prepared Filipino delicacies, such as biko, suman, kutsinta and monggo soup for their guests.
Abe arrived in Duterte's house at around 8:55am and their breakfast meeting lasted for about an hour. Later at the Waterfront Hotel, the two leaders ate durian.
Duterte's house is located at Dona Luisa Phase 1 subdivision in Matina District, unlike a posh private subdivision where most Filipino politicians have been living. Celerina Monte/DMS
