ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Abu Sayyaf bandits freed on Tuesday a 10-year-old boy they seized almost three months ago in Sulu, police reported Wednesday.
The Sulu Provincial Police Office said freed was Zaide Khan “Azziz” Perian Pasil, son of Zaide Ahmad Pasil, chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Sulu.
Police said the boy was freed around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday in the town of Patikul and was received by his father and uncle.
Police said the release of the boy came following negotiations headed by a certain Faizal, the neighbor of the Pasil family.
Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, said the boy was with elder sister, Fatima Zaima, 13, aboard a family-owned jeep on the way to school when they were blocked by six gunmen on three motorcycles.
The boy is a Grade 5 pupil at the Notre Dame of Jolo Elementary School. DMS
