Abu Sayyaf killed in encounter with Marines in Sulu

A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed and a high-powered firearm was recovered in an encounter in Sulu on Tuesday morning.
Col. Gerry Besana, spokesman of the military's Western Mindanao Command ( Wesmincom), said the clash happened at the vicinity of Sitio Halu-Halu, Simisa Island, Barangay Bakaan, Banguigui around 8:31 am. .
He said the troops of 3rd Marine Company, Marine Battalion Landing Team 3 were conducting pursuit operation when the encountered the Abu Sayyaf members.
“The 15-minute firefight resulted to one enemy killed (body count) and one high-powered firearm seized (M1 carbine rifle),” Besana said.
Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Wesmincom head, said “a number of the bandits were wounded and probably could have died due to loss of blood after the encounter especially that our troops are still pursuing them''. Robina Asido/DMS
