November 13, 2020

A member of Abu Sayyaf Group was killed in a clash with government troops in Basilan on Friday morning.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said composite forces of the intelligence and operations units and the 64th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Force Basilan conducted a raid operation targeting Hasid Salajim, alias Boyron or Pilay in Barangay Etub-Etub, Sumisip, Basilan Province.

"Upon reaching the area, the subject immediately fired upon our dismounting troops. Our soldiers were forced to return fire which resulted in the death of Salajim,” said Vinluan.

Vinluan said the government forces recovered one M16 rifle from Salajim.

JTF Basilan Commander Col. Domingo Gobway said Hasid Salajim is a member of the Abu Sayyaf under sub-leader Pasil Bayali, alias Kera.

“He is the 7th ASG member killed during an encounter within the year. Since January 2020 to date, our unit has neutralized a total of 37 Abu Sayyaf Group members wherein seven were killed, 28 surrendered, and two were apprehended,” he said.

Vinluan lauded the troops of the Joint Task Force Basilan for the successful operation. Robina Asido/DMS
