April 17, 2019
A member of the Abu Sayyaf was apprehended by soldiers in Sulu on Wednesday.
Col. Gerry Besana, spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom), said Aljie Wajhid was apprehended at the vicinity of Sitio Kan Bading, Barangay Taung, Patikul, Sulu at 7:10 am.
Besana said troops of the 32nd Infantry Battalion were conducting focused military operation when they apprehended Wajid, a member of the Abu Sayyaf under Hajan Sawadjaan.
Besana said during the operation soldiers seized one caliber .45 pistol, one magazine with four rounds of ammunition and two rolls of electric wire from Wajid.
Following his arrest Wajid underwent custodial debriefing at the 32nd Infantry Battalion headquarters and was turned over to Patikul Municipal Police Station for further investigation and filing of appropriate charges.
Besana said soldiers also recovered a body in Sitio Hagas-Hagas, Barangay Pangkayahan, Patikul at 8 am.
He said the body is believed to be an Abu Sayyaf member slain during an encounter on April 11 in the same barangay.
“Troops immediately buried the recovered dead body since it is already in the state of decomposition,” Besana added. Robina Asido/DMS
