November 15, 2019

The acting chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said he will meet the station commander of the four Manila cops who were arrested for extortion to find if the official will be liable for their act.

In a press briefing, Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas said they are studying if there is a need for the station commander to be relieved.

"We have to do due process that's why we are going to talk to him to ask what happened before we finally decide," Sinas said.

"We are asking him now to explain what happened," he added.

Sinas reiterated he wants his people to explain first if they were accused of doing something illegal.

"My style is I don't want them to be immediately relieved. Let them explain first what really happened, then we'll re-evaluate," he said.

Sinas said he is scheduled to visit Baseco Police Station where the arrested cops were assigned.

"I want to personally talk to the people there," he said.

Sinas reminded cops those who will conduct illegal activities will surely face charges.

"Administrative charges have commanding maximum penalty of dismissal. So we remind them to do away with illegal activities because in the end they will cry and ask to be back from service," he said.

On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police- Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) arrested the suspects after they tried to extort money from the wife of the drug personality they caught last November 12.

These cops are under the custody of IMEG and will also face Kidnapping charges. Ella Dionisio/DMS
