The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) joins Filipino Muslims as they celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan or the Eid al-Fitr.
AFP Chief Gen. Benjamin Madrigal said the military "is one with our Muslim brothers and sisters in the peaceful, joyous and festive celebration of Eid al-Fitr."
"As we give reverence to the holy feast, we hope to further strengthen our relationship with the Muslim community as one Filipino nation in promoting lasting peace for our country and in fighting against violent extremism," he said.
"In the spirit of unity, the whole AFP will remain supportive and committed in the just implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law which shall pave the way for a just and lasting peace and development in the South," he added.
Madrigal said by "setting aside social, cultural and spiritual differences, we as Filipinos can make history by passing on a better and more prosperous Mindanao to the next generation."
"We hope that our relationship with our Muslim brothers and sisters built with trust and respect will continue to bear fruit as we tread our path to peace," he added.
Capt. Arvin Encinas, spokesman of the 6th Infantry Division, said "military Muslim personnel were joined by their families and other civilians living near the camp in an early morning prayer in front of the 6th ID Grandstand in Maguindanao.
Encinas said the "commander of 6th Infantry Division, Maj. General Cirilito Sobejana, extended his greetings to the Muslim brothers and sisters of 6th ID and stakeholders and thanked them for choosing 6th ID camp to celebrate Eid’l Fitr."
"May the blessings of Allah fill your life with happiness and this worthy celebration will touch the love and peace to each and every one of us,” said Sobejana. Robina Asido/DMS
