AFP names new PMA superintendent, commander of cadets

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Noel Clement named the new superintendent and commandant of cadets at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).


“This afternoon we will be installing Brig. Gen. Romeo Brawner as the acting commandant of cadets of the PMA and next week we will installing Rear Admiral Allan (Ferdinand) Cusi as the acting Superintendent of the PMA,” Clement told reporters in Camp AguinaldoThursday.


"The focus here actually is to make sure that we will be able to continue and make sure that whatever systems and policies that has to be revised will actually be reviewed," he said.


"I have directed the inspector general of the AFP to proceed to PMA in Baguio to undertake the inquiry, investigation of what is happening so that the new superintendent actually will be able to address... what happened and to address what programs that have to in place so that this incident will not happen again in the future," he added.


Cusi, former Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy and Commander of Naval Education Training and Doctrines Command will replace PMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista.


Brawner, commander of 103rd Infantry Brigade assigned in Marawi, will replace PMA Commandant of Cadets Brig. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro in a ceremony in Baguio.


Evangelista and Bacarro announced their resignation Tuesday days after Cadet Fourth Class Darwin Dormitorio died due to alleged hazing. Three cadets are in hospitals after they showed signs of maltreatment. 


Clement said the order of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to conduct physical examination to all the first year in PMA is still being done.


"It's ongoing. We have no official reports about it yet... we have been doing that in the past. The stripping of cadets has been happening in the past especially if there are alleged maltreatment,'' he said. Robina Asido/DMS
