AFP thanks Senate for support on anti-terrorism bill

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has expressed gratitude to the Senate for supporting the proposed amendments to the anti-terrorism measure.
"We thank the Senate for taking concrete steps toward amending the Human Security Act to better capacitate and empower government security forces to combat terrorism," AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said Thursday.
Arevalo issued his statement after Senate President Vicente Sotto III assured the passage of the bill that will amend the Human Security Act of 2007.
He said the passage of the anti-terrorism bill will benefit not only the people from Mindanao but the whole country.
"The Filipino people stand to benefit from the passage of this new law that shall address the myriad, complex, and global threat of terrorism, not only in Mindanao where Martial Law terminates on 31 Dec. 2019, but the rest of the country," said Arevalo.
Early this year, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana stressed the importance of passing the anti-terrorism bill, which "would no longer necessitate the proclamation of martial law and suspension of habeas corpus." Robina Asido/DMS
