After skipping National Heroes’ Day celebration, Duterte visits Libingan ng mga Bayani
August 27, 2019
After skipping the National Heroes' Day celebration on Monday morning, President Rodrigo Duterte apparently made an effort to honor the country's heroes by visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before the day ended.
Accompanied by his former close aide and now Senator Christopher "Bong" Go and some military officials, Duterte dropped by at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City late Monday night.
Malacañang released on Tuesday photos of Duterte lighting a candle near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Duterte was supposed to lead commemoration of the National Heroes' Day that morning through a wreath laying at the marker.
But he did not show up and he was represented by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
According to Go, Duterte, 74, was "indisposed". Celerina Monte/DMS
