Albayalde hopes young cops will continue to ”professionalize” PNP

Police General Oscar Albayalde expressed high hopes that the younger generation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will continue to “professionalize” the police service after the National Police Training Institute (NPTI) was formally turned over to them.
In a ceremony held at Camp Vicente Lim in Laguna, the PNP chief said the turned over is a “landmark event that ushers real, sustainable and lasting change in the PNP”.
“With only less than two months before I officially hang my hat in retirement and pass on the mantle of leadership of the PNP to the younger generation of leaders, I express high hopes that we will continue to professionalize the police service by producing police personnel completely imbued with the core values and ideals of the PNP, and with more competencies that will result in greater professionalism and better performance,” he said.
Now that the NPTI is handled by the PNP, he said by law, they are solely responsible in producing a police officer from recruitment to retirement.
“Thus we only have ourselves to blame if any PNP member will go astray because of poor training and orientation,” Albayalde said.
“With the PNP takeover of both PNPA and NPTI, we are now better situated in terms of producing only the fittest and most qualified officers and personnel who will join the police service as servant and protectors of the people,” he added.
Albayalde said since the PNP is the country’s premiere law enforcement agency, it is high time it takes full responsibility of training of police officers.
Last week, Albayalde led the turn over of the full administrative and operational supervision and control of the Philippine National Police Academy under the law. Ella Dionisio/DMS
