Albayalde orders Aquino’s police escorts to return to PDEA chief
October 7, 2019
The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday said he ordered the Central Luzon police office to return all police escorts of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency ( PDEA) chief Aaron Aquino.
Police General Oscar Albayalde said he made the order to prevent speculations the PNP sent death threats to Aquino.
“I directed he regional director to temporarily bring back all the security request of DG Aquino. Last Friday or Saturday morning, I directed- because they said their and their families lives are under threat,” Albayalde told reporters.
“In fairness and in the name of justice and in love of country, for being a professional soldier and the PNP, I return all the (security) request of DG Aquino,” he added.
Earlier, Albayalde said the regional director of Central Luzon police told him the removal of the 15 police escorts of Aquino is due to Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
On the part of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Albayalde assured he will have full control of the Baguio City Police Office.
“So we don’t see any problem there,” he said.
“Now if he need a permanent or regular security, then he can always write us or he can always- even direct his request to me or to the PSPG (Police Security and Protection Group) so that he will be given permanent security,” he added.
During a Senate hearing last week, both Magalong and Aquino said they received death threats after disclosing that an active and a retired police generals are involved in illegal drugs. Ella Dionisio/DMS
