Albayalde says being PNP chief is ”destiny”

October 7, 2019

Just like how President Rodrigo Duterte saw his winning the 2016 elections, Police General Oscar Albayalde believed being head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is also “destiny”.

In a press briefing at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna, Albayalde said being the chief of the PNP is God-given.

“Remember, I believe being chief of the Philippine National Police is God-given, it’s a destiny,” he said.

He admitted not dreaming of becoming the chief of the PNP.

“I never dream of becoming a chief PNP, I only wanted to be a general and I’m thankful. But I was given a chance to serve this country and I served well. The people and even our president saw it when I was a regional director,” Albayalde said.

“I was assigned as the chief PNP because of my performance not for anything else,” he added.

Albayalde said made the remarks after it was being rumored that his coming retirement is the reason issues are being thrown at him, particularly the issue of ''ninja cops''.

Albayalde said even if someone who has dreamt to become the PNP chief kill or ruin other’s reputation, if they are not destined to be the head of the PNP, they will not achieve it.

“If it’s not for you, God is genius and he sees everything. You can never plan it,” he said.

Though Albayalde said there is nothing wrong in aiming high. citing his upperclassmen and underclassmen who dreamed of being the chief of staff when they are still cadets at the Philippine Military Academy.

“There is always a reason why you are placed in that position. Remember that. You should know what your purpose is. This is what we called purpose driven life. You should know your purpose in life,” Albayalde said.

On 2016, Duterte said he is a “believer of destiny” after winning the presidential election.

“I leave it up to God. I’ve always been a believer in destiny,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
