Albayalde thanks Duterte for law making PNP to train cops

May 23, 2019

Philippine National Police ( PNP) General Oscar Albayalde on Thursday said they will be responsible on the quality of police officers after produced from the Philippine National Police Academy.

This after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11279 on April 12 that would transfer the control of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) and the National Police Training Institute (NPTI) from the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) to the PNP.

Albayalde thanked Congress and President Rodrigo Duterte for the law.

“We would like to thank Congress for passing it and of course the president for signing it. As I have said we don’t have a reason now if something bad happens or if there are incidents of abuses or whatever outcome (from) the standard of officers that we will produce from that academy,” he said.

Because of this law, Albayalde said they cannot blame anyone if there will be lapses during training.

“We cannot finger point anymore. So now the responsibility really lies on us, we cannot have any excuses on the outcome on the standard or quality of officers that will be producing from that academy,” he said.

This has been the call of PNP every time there will be report of abuse inside the PNPA.

Even newly-elect Senator Bato Dela Rosa wants the organization to handle the training.

“Only here in the Philippine that you can see cops not being trained by the PNP,” he earlier said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
