“The successful surrender of said personalities was facilitated by the Alpha Company, 49th IB in coordination with the local government unit of Masiu,” he said.

“Said surrenderers were presented to the Association of Barangay Captains President, Sarip Rangiris Acob, after which they were brought to the 49th IB headquarters for custodial debriefing,” he added.

Encinas said the turned over firearms were temporarily placed under the custody of 49th IB for safekeeping.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, head of the Western Mindanao Command, recognized the support of local government officials on the campaign against terrorism.

“We are delighted by their decision to return to the mainstream of society instead of engaging in armed confrontations,” Sobejana said. Robina Asido/DMS
