Alleged NPA killed in Agusan del Sur

Government troops killed an alleged member of the New People's Army (NPA) and recovered war materials after an encounter in Agusan del Sur on Wednesday morning.
Capt Aldim Viernes, civil military operations officer of the 401st Infantry Brigade, said the clash occured in the vicinity of Barangay Mabuhay, Prosperidad.
Viernes said the troops were conducting operations to assure security within the area.
"The operation was made to support the local government of Properidad headed by Mayor Frederick Mark Mellana to strengthen and develop the tourism in the area where Bega Falls is located," he said.
Viernes said government forces also recovered one M-16 rifle, an improvised bomb, a backpack with personal belongings, a commercial radio, cell phone and four gallons of gasoline.
"The slain rebel was brought to a funeral parlor in Bahbah, Prosperidad while the police are conducting investigation to identify the rebel and examine firearms and other recovered items," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
