Alleged NPA killed in Mindoro Oriental encounter

An alleged member of New People's Army ( NPA) was killed while a soldier was wounded in an encounter in Oriental Mindoro on Friday morning, a regional police spokesman said Friday.
In a report, Police Lt. Col Imelda Tolentino said the clash occured in the vicinity of Sitio Panakan, Brgy. Happy Valley, Socorro, Oriental Mindoro around 8:55 am .
Tolentino said government forces were on combat operations when they encounter around 15 armed men.
"Accordingly, the enemy were encamped at the said vicinity. Firefight lasted for about fifteen 15 minutes and the enemy scampered towards north direction," she said.
Tolentino said during the clash Cpl. Froilan Yakak sustained a gunshot wound on his right shoulder while a body of a still unidentified male rebel was recovered.
He said government forces recovered one cal. 45; two magazines for cal. 45; three magazines for M16; 200 rounds (linked) for M60; 100 rounds for M16; two pcs of improvided explosive devise; personal belongings; and subversive documents after the clash. Robina Asido/DMS
