Alleged NPA member killed in encounter with soldiers in Cagayan de Oro

An alleged member of New People's Army (NPA) was killed in a 15-minute encounter with government troops in Cagayan de Oro City on Wednesday.
1stLt. Krescelle Renoblas, civil military operations officer of the 65th Infantry Battalion, said the clash occured at the vicinity of Km 17 Barangay Besigan, Cagayan de Oro City at 3:20 pm.
Renoblas said soldiers were conducting security operations in response to the reported presence of the rebels when they encountered ten alleged NPAs.
"The operation was based on the collective information received by this unit from the local populace of said barangay. According to the locals, the CPP-NPA ( Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army) terrorists came down from the mountains asking for food supplies," she said.
Troops recovered a dead body of an NPA terrorist, two M16 riffles, one M4 carbine, one bandolier containing five magazines loaded with 137 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, two backpacks with personal belongings, and assorted medical supplies, Renoblas said.
