Angkas laments LTFRB’s plan to cut number of riders by 20K
December 21, 2019
Ride hailing motorcycle company Angkas is seeking public support to save 27,000 riders from losing their job.
George Royeca, chief transport advocate of Angkas, said the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board's (LTFRB) has ordered the company to cut the number of the motorcycle drivers.
"The good news: the operations of Angkas is extended until next year. The bad news: almost 20,000 bikers will lose their source of income this coming year," Royeca said in a statement on Saturday.
Royeca explained that instead of allowing them to add more bikers to serve more commuters, LTFRB has imposed to decrease their bikers from 27,000 to 10,000.
Among those who will be laid off were their riders who have been working with them since 2017.
"That's a compromise to the quality of service you can expect, and a direct blow to over 17,000 Filipino families," he said.
"The traffic in our thoroughfares is getting heavier each day, and there are more and more commuters to serve as time goes by," he added.
He pleaded for the public to #SaveAngkas and allow them to serve more commuters while also helping thousands of their bikers' families. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
