Another reshuffle in PNP possible: Gamboa
January 2, 2020
There may be another reshuffle of Philippine National Police ( PNP) regional directors as their probation period has lapsed.
Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP officer-in-charge, said Thursday during the PNP commanders’ meeting last December, he released a rating and gave them one week to protest.
The rating will be released by January 20.
“I said, you have one week to do your protest or to do your complaint on the rating but once you don't, then that’s final,” he said.
“With the same measurements we are coming up with a rating by January 20 and for me, if someone failed then that’s the cause of relief. Hopefully everyone passed because if they pass it means they are doing their job,” Gamboa added.
He said those who will fail will be replaced by someone who can perform better.
Gamboa added he will continue to reshuffle if he sees the need for it.
“If there’s really a need for another reshuffle, I will do it and it is within my authority,” he said.
On October last year, Gamboa placed a three-month probationary status on police officials holding key positions to assess their performance following a big which affected almost 20 senior police officials assigned in regional offices as well as in the directorial staff and national support units.
Also, all promotions for star-rank officers were put on hold while their performance is being assessed during the probationary period.
Gamboa said the revamp was approved not only by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año but also President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Part of my duty is to show it to the SILG and even to the president... For the past assignments, juicy promotions all pass through their eyes and approval,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
