September 2, 2019

The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARRM) donated a speedboat to the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday.

Maj. Arvin Encinas, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said during the turnover of speedboat keys and manuals were received by WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana from former ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman. now Basilan congressman.

"The turnover was held at the WestMinCom Grandstand in Camp Navarro at 7 am yesterday, September 1," he said.

"The ARMM will turn over four more speedboats, as additional naval capability, to the Joint Task Forces Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Central," he added.

"The speedboats will be utilized by the Joint Task Forces in their maritime interdiction, border patrol, and transport and strategic insertion of troops in their operational environment," he added.

Hataman said the donation was made to recognize the hard work of the security forces.

“The ARMM allotted P30 million to procure five speedboats for the Joint Task Forces of the WestMinCom. It’s a small deed to repay the AFP for all its hard work and perseverance to secure Mindanao,” he said.

Sobejana expressed gratitude to the ARMM.

“We are very much grateful to the ARMM, represented by Congressman Hataman. With him (Hataman) sitting in Congress, I know more help will be extended to the armed forces in as far as capability buildup and other matters within the grasp of the WestMinCom are concerned,” he said. Robina Asido/DMS
