Army chief in Russia for official visit

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto paid an official visit to the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation in Moscow on Monday.
Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, Philippine Army's (PA) spokesman said the visit was made upon the invitation of Russian Ground Forces Army Gen. Oleg Salyukov.
"(The) meeting was conducted to discuss issues of bilateral military cooperation, training of Filipino servicemen in Russian military schools and participation of Philippine teams in the International Army Games," he said.
"During the visit at the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the PA delegation was also acquainted with the academy’s organization, types, and peculiarities in training the officers," Zagala added.
Zagala said Alberto also toured the Tank Guards Command of the Western Military District and the Research Institute of Precision Machinery.
"We recognize the evolving security threats that our country faces and international cooperation is necessary to effectively address them," he said.
"Our Russian counterparts' experience in combat against various threats and the subsequent training will enhance our own capabilities that will help us in accomplishing our mission", he added. Robina Asido/DMS
