Army gives testimonial parade and review for Clement

The Philippine Army on Wednesday rendered a testimonial parade and review honoring Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Noel Clement who is set to retire next month.
Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, Philippine Army spokesman said the event was held at the ROTC Hunters Parade Ground of the Philippine Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacioy.
Zagala said during the ceremony, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay lauded Clement’s 39 years of service, highlighting his stints from battalion to chief of staff that contributed to overall success of the Filipino forces’ mandate.
“He (Clement) is known to lead by example and is also a father figure to many for he always prioritized the welfare of his people,” said Gapay.
Clement, who assumed as the 52nd AFP Chief of Staff last September, is set to retire from the military upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56 in January 2020.
Zagala said in his speech, "Clement recalled the challenging life in the Army that made him realize the enormous responsibility of being a military leader."
"Each soldier in the Army has a role to play, do not underestimate or undervalue your contribution. Your work is important to the Army’s mission,” said Clement.
“Remember our duty to put God, country, and people above ourselves,” he said.
“I have full trust that as I will be leaving my post, the men and women of the Philippine Army are always dependable, capable, and bearers of the brand of excellence that a world-class Armed Forces possesses,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
