The chief of the National Capital Region Police NCRPO) on Tuesday said he ordered officers manning checkpoints to arrest those who pretend as cops to take advantage of the situation.
“We are also checking on these (people) because there are a lot who want to be a police officer now ,” Police Major General Debold Sinas said in a press briefing.
Sinas said they also check accounts on Facebook of those poising as police officers and wearing uniforms.
“We download all their accounts and give to those who are in checkpoints… those fake cops took photos wearing the uniform and used it on their Facebook account… I told them (police officers) to monitor those fake cops and once they enter through checkpoints, they will be immediately arrested,” he said.
Sinas said the objective of these people is to spread fake news and to harass people.
“We suspected that reports of corruption were committed by them,” he added.
Sinas made the statement following the arrest of two fake cops in Quezon City.
According to the Quezon City Police District two persons claiming to be policemen were flagged down in separate quarantine checkpoints in the city.
Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, QCPD director, said first to be arrested was Joselito Luz, 54, in a checkpoint in Batasan-San Mateo Road, Barangay Batasan Hills last Sunday.

Luz was caught wearing an athletic t-shirt while Ysulat failed to show documents of a pistol and ammunition oin his possession.
“Initial interview of the suspect (Ysulat) disclosed that he got the firearm and ammunition and the police uniform from his relative whom he said to have retired from the service,” said Montejo.
Both suspects are under the police custody and will face charges for violating Usurpation of Authority, the Land Transportation Code, and Republic Act 11332.
