Around 500 people were arrested for violating the provincial ordinance on community quarantine in Cavite during their overnight anti-criminality drive.

Cavite Police Director, Colonel Marlon Santos said from March 22 to 23, they recorded a total of 508 persons violating the rules in relation to Executive Order 10 Series 2020, an order placing the Province of Cavite under community quarantine.

Of the total, 433 were charged for violating curfew, 58 for liquor ban, and 17 for resistance, direct assault and disobedience to person in authority.

The province was also under quarantine due to the 2019 coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

On their anti-criminality drive, Cavite police arrested 47 other for illegal drugs, serving warrant of arrest, illegal gambling, illegal possession of firearms, stabbing and malicious mischief.

“The arrested suspects were apprised of their Constitutional Rights provided in the Miranda Rule and the Anti-Torture Act of 2009 and were brought to the stations to prepare the criminal charges for Inquest Proceedings to be filed before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor,” Santos said.

Confiscated evidences were brought to Cavite Provincial Crime Laboratory Office (SOCO) for laboratory examination.

“As the entire Luzon was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine, I remind the public to cooperate and obey the authorities,” he said.

Santos added simultaneous 24-hour checkpoints on strategic locations were established by all stations to prevent the movement of every individual. Ella Dionisio/DMS
