At least seven persons are reported dead with 24 missing following Monday's magnitude 6.1 earthquake in Zambales and strongly felt in other parts of Luzon.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ( NDRMMC) made this report on Tuesday as rescuers try to save people trapped inside a supermarket in Porac, Pampanga.

Most of the fatalities were recorded in Pampanga.

Two more persons were still trapped inside the Chuzon supermarket in Porac, Pampanga, based on Philippine National Police’s unofficial report.

“Just to give you unofficial, with regards to the earthquake yesterday. The data we get from the Police Regional Office 3 are all unofficial. The official record will be coming from the National Risk Reduction and Management Council,” Police General Oscar Albayalde said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

“What we have is what we get from the ground,” he added.

According to the PNP chief, two persons are still missing out of the 32 persons believe to be trapped inside the supermarket that collapsed during the 6.1 magnitude earthquake last Monday.

“What our rescuers said comes from the regional director. There are still two more trapped inside Chuzon supermarket,” said Albayalde.

“They were able to recover some last night until this morning. There’s probability of life, they believed that the two (person) trapped inside are still alive,” he added.

Based on their data, five person died while 106 were reported injured.

“As of 10 pm yesterday, total injured in the region, particularly in Pampanga and Angeles. We have a total of 106, 91 from Pampanga and 15 in Angeles City,” said Albayalde.

“And we have casualties, we have incurred 5 dead bodies. Two in Lubao and three in Porac,” he said.

There were many reports of damage to properties.

“We have a lot here in Bataan. Two in Bulacan, five in Pampanga, two in Zambales, two in Angeles City, (and) two in Olongapo,” Albayalde said.

Road closures were reported in Lubao and Porac after bridges were damaged due to the quake.

“We still don’t know as of now if already passable for passengers,” he said.

As of Monday, Albayalde ordered the activation of their Disaster and Incident Management task force team and he is set to inspect the hard hit area Tuesday. Ella Dionisio/DMS
