September 16, 2019

A police officer who went AWOL (absent without leave) and three others were arrested for alleged carnapping in Quezon City last Sunday.

A report from Quezon City Police District identified the suspects as John Rhey Bautista, a former police officer, Albert Hipolito, 39; Christopher Orosco, 39; and Roderick Sarang, 43.

Suspects were arrested around 8 pm along Tomas Morato Street corner Scout Gandia, Quezon City after a complainant sought for police assistance after a certain Joanna Mae Turingan rented her two cars for P22,000 with agreement to return it by September 15.

However, the owner of the vehicles found that the GPS tracking device installed was offline.

At the police station, the owner was able to track one of his vehicles using a back-up GPS which resulted in the conduct of operation.

One of the vehicles of the complainant was recovered where Bautista and two of the other suspects were on board. The group’s back-up vehicles were  recovered along with assorted firearms and identification cars.

But Police Colonel Ronnie Montejo, acting QCPD Director, the person who rented the vehicles is still at large.

Suspects will face violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Carnapping Act of 2016 and Republic Act 10591 or Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
