Bach to inform Olympic participants of Japanese food safety
September 24, 2019
New York--International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach indicated at a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday that he will inform countries participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics of the safety of Japanese food items.
On the safety of food products following the March 2011 triple meltdowns at Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc.'s <9501> tsunami-hit Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant in northeastern Japan, Bach suggested that he will inform participating nations that Japan has been taking appropriate measures against radioactive pollution.
At the meeting in New York, in which both sides exchanged opinions on bringing the 2020 Games to a success, Abe and Bach also confirmed their close cooperation for the adoption of a U.N. General Assembly resolution calling for all nations and regions across the globe to halt armed conflict during the Tokyo Games.
Abe said Japan is in the midst of excitement for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which is hosted by the country. In response, Bach congratulated Abe on the Japanese national team's victory in its first match. Jiji Press
