Belmonte proclaimed Quezon City mayor

Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte defeated incumbent Congressman Vincent "Bingbong" Crisologo in the mayoral race on Tuesday.
Belmonte, daughter of former mayor and congressman Feliciano Belmonte and Philippine Star founder Betty Go Belmonte, was officially proclaimed as the new mayor by the City Board of Canvassers after gaining 469,480 votes at 100 percent transmission early Tuesday.
She ran under the Serbisyo ng Bayan Party and was backed by outgoing Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
Crisologo, arrested by police along with his son on suspicion of vote buying Sunday night but was freed on Monday, has an overall vote of 366,215.
The City Board of Canvassers also declared Belmonte's running-mate councilor Gian Sotto as vice mayor with 382,293 votes. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
