BI arrests 30 Chinese allegedly found working illegally in Paranaque

February 9, 2019

Intelligence operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested Thursday evening 30 Chinese nationals found to be working illegally in several establishments in Parañaque.

According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, the aliens were caught working without the proper visa or permit, in violation of the Philippine Immigration Act.

The raid targeted 16 establishments at the Solemare Parksuites and Aseana Power Station, both located in the vicinity of the Diosdado Macapagal boulevard.

"Our intel has received anonymous information that numerous foreigners were working illegally in the area," said Morente. "I immediately issued a mission order to conduct the arrests upon confirmation," he added.

BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. said they conducted prior surveillance in the area, and arrested aliens caught in the act working as cooks, hairstylists, and vendors.

"Most of them were working under a tourist visa," shared Manahnan. "Many were undocumented and were even overstaying," he added.

Manahan revealed that another 17 Chinese nationals and one Taiwanese were arrested during the raid, but were later recommended for release upon presentation of proper visas.

Morente warned that more arrests would follow due to their intensified drive against illegal aliens.

"I cannot comprehend how these illegal aliens can have the audacity to blatantly and openly work without the proper documentation," he said. "I hope that this incident serves as a warning to all. We are serious in our drive against illegal aliens. You better follow the law, or face deportation," he added.

Those arrested will be temporarily detained at the BI Detention Center in Bicutan, pending deportation proceedings. DMS
