BI deports seven Sino fugitives, illegal miners

June 21, 2020

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported seven Chinese nationals who were ordered expelled for being fugitives from justice and working without the appropriate permits and visas.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI Port Operations Chief Grifton Medina said the aliens were deported Thursday and Friday aboard two separate flights of China Southern Airlines bound for Xiamen that departed from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Medina said the four who left Thursday, identified as Yong, Li Jia, Ye Bin,and Wang Xuening, are fugitives wanted for economic crimes in China. Xu Xiansheng, Gong Yaan and Xie Yuhong who departed the next day were expelled for engaging in unauthorized black sand mining operations.

“They were all sent home pursuant to deportation orders issued by our Board of Commissioners which also directed that they be placed in our blacklist,” Medina said about the aliens who were escorted to the NAIA from their detention cell at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

He said deportations are being carried out in compliance with Morente's directive to expedite the resolution of cases against aliens confined at the Bicutan jail as part of measures to  prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the facility.

BI Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said all seven deportees were arrested in September last year during operations conducted by BI operatives within and outside Metro Manila.

Three of the fugitives deported were reportedly among the 270 illegal foreign workers arrested during a raid by BI agents of their workplace at the Ortigas Center in Pasig City where they secretly operated an online investment scam racket that victimized many compatriots in China.

The fourth fugitive is among the 304 illegal foreign workers arrested in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan by joint BI, military and police operatives for engaging in illegal online gaming operations, Manahan said.

He added that three other deportees were arrested in Masinloc, Zambales where BI agents caught them in the act of engaging in black sand mining.

It was learned that the BI had deported the hundreds of Chinese nationals arrested in the raids in Pasig and Puerto Princesa. BI
