March 11, 2019

A male cadaver suspected to be that of a Japanese was found in Magalang, Pampanga last month.

A report from the Magalang Municipal Police Station said the body was found at Barangay San Isidro around 9:45 am of February 19 by a concerned citizen.

The citizen, who was passing by a corn field going to work, noticed the cadaver and reported it to the authorities.

The victim wearing a blue polo shirt and jeans including a gray jacket has two stab wounds on his neck and one on his shoulder.

A police officer from the Magalang municipal police station who requested anonymity said the body's backbone has a fracture.

He said there is no blood or signs of struggle at the place where the body is found, making them believe he was killed in some other place.

The place, which is beside a monastery, has no streetlights and people rarely pass by at night.

Found in the cadaver’s pocket is the supposed key to his apartment in Balibago, Angeles City in Pampanga.

Because of the body's East Asian features, authorities contacted the Japanese and Korean Embassy.

According to the police officer, the Japanese embassy gave the address of the victim where they found his passport and a notebook containing his girlfriend’s name last week.

Based on the CCTV footage, the victim was last seen on February 18 around 8 pm.

As of posting time, police are looking at the Japanese's girlfriend as a person of interest in the crime after some residents said she lied, borrowed money and did not repay him several times.

Residents said perhaps the victim noticed this and got mad.

The officer said the victim has been with his girlfriend for four years but has not introduced her to his neighbors.

Allegedly, she said she was as a police officer but based on the records of the Philippine National Police, her name is not registered and she is believed to be working at a club.

Authorities are searching for the girl’s address and waiting for the DNA results. Ella Dionisio/DMS
