A Bureau of Corrections ( BuCor) official was stabbed by an inmate who allegedly has a psychological problem inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City Thursday morning.
In a report from the Southern Police District, the victim was identified as Edgardo Ferrer, a BuCor inspector assigned at the maximum security area where the incident happened around 8:40 am.
The suspect was identified as Wilson Topic, alias Amay.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jenny Tecson, SPD spokesperson said Topic used scissors in stabbing the official and they are still investigating why the suspect had the item.
“We have yet to interview the victim since he is still in the hospital,” Tecson said in a phone interview.
According to the Bureau of Corrections spokesperson, Captain Eusebio del Rosario, the inmate suddenly stabbed the victim.
“But Inspector Ferrer was alert and were able to hold his (Topic) hand so he fell down and was immediately pacified,” Del Rosario said in a radio interview.
Eusebio revealed he had a psychiatric record and is suffering from schizophrenia.
“He was confined in the psychiatric ward and his last confinement was last July 23 and he went out on September 3,” he said.
“Maybe his symptoms returned that’s why he did that. He is still under investigation,” he added.
Both were brought to the NBP Hospital before Ferrer was brought to Medical Center of Muntinlupa for further treatment. Ella Dionisio/DMS
