Bureau of Immigration arrests Turkish national for overstaying

A Turkish national who assaulted a Makati traffic enforcer last weel was arrested Friday by Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives for overstaying.
Yuksel Ibrahim, 24, went viral on social media for evading a traffic violation on November 22. He reportedly hit enforcer Michael Orcino’s arm as the latter was directing traffic, and sped off when flagged down. He was unable to present a driver’s license, and was arrested for allegedly physically assaulting Orcino.
Ibrahim was released by Makati police after posting bail, but was arrested after by BI’s intelligence agents for his immigration violations.
“We immediately conducted an investigation on his status once we received information about the incident,” said BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. “We found out that he is already overstaying, and his blatant disregard for the law and disrespect for law enforcers show that he is an undesirable alien,” he added.
Manahan said it was found out Ibrahim was engaging in gainful operations without a proper visa.
''His actions show that he is a risk to public safety, and must be deported,” said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.
Ibrahim is at the BI Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation proceedings. DMS
