Canada’s trash to be sent back on May 30: Locsin
May 28, 2019
Tons of garbage from Canada will be shipped back to Ottawa on May 30, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin said Tuesday.
“All containers containing garbage [were] cleaned and ready to go. Waiting for a couple of documents and routine permission from China for transshipment to Canada,” Locsin said in his Twitter account.
“Departure is May 30,” Locsin added.
Locsin said President Rodrigo Duterte made the right move to make the repatriation of the garbage, which was shipped to the Philippines in 2014, possible.
“It is nicer to be appreciative . . . to President Duterte for pushing the right button – believe me no one advised him . . .” Locsin stressed.
Locsin also praised the Canadian government for “fully cooperating to get it (repatriation of the trash) done.”
Created under PNoy (referring to former President Benigno Aquino); left fester 4 years; solved by Duterte,” he said.
The May 30 schedule is a month earlier than the date initially set by the Canadian government.
The almost 70 containers of trash underwent fumigation, where Canadian government officials were present.
The containers from Canada containing trash were labeled “recyclable plastic materials” when these were shipped to Manila by Chronic, Inc, a firm based in Ontario, Canada. DMS
