Catanduanes damage ”70 percent of Haiyan”: Red Cross

November 2, 2020

Two were reported dead as Catanduanes province, where Super Typhoon ''Rolly'' first made landfall early Sunday, remains without power, water and fuel, the head of the Philippine Red Cross said.

''This was of 4 am and very preliminary,'' said Senator Richard Gordon in an interview with ANC of the casualties.

''The (Red Cross) chapter (in Catanduanes) has been overwhelmed by the immensity of the disaster. According to (our chapter administrator Raymond Reginaldo) our chapter, it is like 70 percent of (Super Typhoon) Haiyan,''added Gordon.

Gordon said Red Cross' Catanduanes chapter has a satellite phone but most of the reports have been visual. He said 80 percent of houses in Bato, where ''Rolly'' made landfall and Virac have been damaged.

Gordon said Catanduanes '' have no water.'' ''We are sending 10,000 liters (of water), water producing machines, generators,'' said Gordon.

Gas stations in Catanduanes have been ''knocked out'', said Gordon. ''(There is) no fuel.'' DMS
