Cayetano confirmed as foreign secretary
May 17, 2017
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano is the Philippines' new foreign affairs secretary following the approval from the Commission on Appointments on Wednesday. Cayetano replaced Perfecto Yasay Jr., whose nomination was rejected by the Commission on Appointments a few weeks ago. After Yasay failed to get the nod, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Enrique Manalo was named acting secretary. Cayetano's confirmation will leave the Senate with 23 lawmakers. Still to be confirmed are Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo and Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial. DMS
