Challenge legality of Duterte order inside BuCor, says Albayalde
September 5, 2019
Police General Oscar Albayalde on Thursday told freed inmates to challenge the legality of President Rodrigo Duterte's order inside the Bureau of Corrections.
On Wednesday night, Duterte told more than 1,000 inmates involved in heinous crimes and were granted by the good conduct and time allowance (GCTA) law to surrender within 15 days.
"While they challenge it, they challenge it while inside the jail. If they challenge outside, then they will have to face arrest also," the PNP chief said.
"Challenge it while inside the Bureau of Corrections and you are continuing your sentence," he added.
The PNP chief said their release is void from the start because inmates convicted of heinous crimes is not included for those who will be granted of the GCTA law.
As of Thursday, two freed inmates surrendered to the Philippine National Police ( PNP) after the president gave his directive. Ella Dionisio/DMS
