Civilian volunteer manning road closure shot dead in QC

Armed motorcycle -riding men shot two civilian volunteers in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City Wednesday night, resulting in one dead and one injured.
Killed was Ronald Cumayas, 38, while his companion, who was shot in the arm as he fled, was brought to the East Avenue Medical Center by barangay officials, said Quezon City Police Director Brig. General Ronnie Montejo.
In a statement, Montejo director, said the victims were manning a temporary barangay road closure when they were attacked around 10:30 pm.
“The QCPD condemns the senseless and shameless shooting. It is certainly an act of cowardice by motorcycle-riding criminals against the volunteers made personal sacrifices amid the COVID-19 crisis,”Montejo said.
Montejo said he ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) and Batasan Police Station to conduct a thorough investigation.
He said they will also check if the victims were involved in illegal drugs.
An initial police report said the victims were manning a temporary road closure on Eagle Street corner Dove Street Area 2 in Sitio Veterans, Barangay Bagong Silangan when four unidentified male suspects on board two motorcycles arrived and fired at them.
The temporary road closure by Barangay Bagong Silangan is to restrain entry and exit of persons and vehicles due to the existing Enhanced Community Quarantine because of COVID-19.
