The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued five Philippine Army soldiers and two Commission on Election (Comelec) personnel on boat off the waters of Samar province on Sunday.
Capt. Armando Balilo, PCG spokesman, said the Philippine Army and Comelec personnel were rescued by Coast Guard personnel of BRP Nueva Vizcaya at the vicinity waters off Darajuay Island, Catbalogan City, Samar.
Balilo said the rescue was launched after the PCG received a report that a boat transporting a vote counting machine capsized.
“Coast Guard Station (CGS) Western Catbalogan received a phone call from Captain Lawi-an of the AFP that a motorbanca loaded with Philippine Army and some civilian personnel capsized while transporting Vote Counting
Machine for barangays Darajuay, Majaba and Basiao for the election,” he said
“All rescued personnel and capsized motorbanca were brought to the shoreline of Brgy Guinsorongan, Catbalogan City,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
