Comelec says on track for 75% voter turnout
May 20, 2019
The Commission on Elections ( Comelec) on Monday said they are on track in meeting their target of 75 percent voter turnout.
“As of this point, we already have 74.89 percent voter turnout that translates to 46,343,423 actual voters,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing.
“So we are on track to meet the 75 percent projection that we said earlier,” he said.
For the local absentee voting, Jimenez said they have 77.08 percent voter turnout with 22,605 voters who voted from 29,326 registered voters.
With regards to the teacher’s honoraria, Jimenez said they are starting to pay the teachers who rendered jobs as electoral board members.
“We have pre-scheduled dates for the payment which is different for every place and unfortunately not everyone claim (their payment),” he said.
He said only 38,249 have been paid out of the 503,280 teachers who served as electoral board members.
“But we have 15 days to complete the payment and I think things are going to go smoothly,” said Jimenez.
The public school teachers who served as election board chairperson will receive P6,000; election board members will receive P5,000; Department of Education Supervising Officers will receive P4,000 and DESO support staff will receive P2,000.
A transportation allowance of P1,000 is added to their honoraria.
Earlier, the Comelec said teachers who have an annual income under the threshold of P250,000 will be exempted from paying taxes. Ella Dionisio/DMS
