April 5, 2019

Authorities on Friday arrested a police officer allegedly involved in illegal drugs in Makati City.

In a statement, Philippine National Police ( PNP) spokesperson Police Col. Bernard Banac said elements from the Counter Intelligence Task Force, PNP Intelligence Group and Makati Drug Enforcement Unit arrested Police Staff Sergeant Chris Mateos Marquez around 10: 20 am at East Rembo.

Marquez, a member of the Calabarzon Regional Police Security and Protection Unit, was apprehended after selling a sachet of shabu to a CITF poseur buyer and receiving P5,000 in marked money.

At around 10: 30 am, police officers also issued search warrant against Marquez for illegal possession of firearms.

Authorities were able to recover pistols, rifles, bullets, another two sachets of shabu, and drug paraphernalia.

The operation stemmed from an intelligence packet developed by Intelligence Group and CITF based on complaints from a concerned citizen thru CITF hotlines on Marquez allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.

He is under custody of CITF for further investigation and filing of administrative and criminal charges.

Banac said the PNP intensified their campaign in removing rogue cops, misfits and scalawags following the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte he may release names of cops involved in illegal drugs.

“Police General Oscar Albayalde has reiterated his stern warning to all PNP personnel to remain faithful to their duties, maintain discipline, and stay away from illegal acts,” he said.

“The PNP will never tolerate anyone who will be involved in illegal drugs and other criminal activities,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
