Cop killed in Samar ambush

A police officer was killed while two, including a policewoman, were injured in an ambush in Motiong, Samar Monday morning.

Superintendent Ma. Bella Rentuaya, Eastern Visayas police spokesperson, said the fatality was PO3 Glenn Meniano.

Initial report said around 7:15 am when Meniano with the wounded personnel PO1 Jane Abejar were on their vehicle returning to their station after fetching water from the Paranas municipal police station when two explosions occurred.

After the explosions, it was followed by gunfire from unidentified suspects at Maharlika Highway, near New Gallera vicinity of Brgy. 1A in Motiong town.

Abejar was able to run to safety after being hit by shrapnel in different parts of her body but Meniano failed to survive.

Rentuaya said they are assisting the bereaved family of Meniano while praying Abejar recovers quickly. Ella Dionisio/DMS
