A policeman and three family members died in a fire which gutted their house in Marikina City Wednesday morning.
Dead were Police Officer 3 Romar Sumait, 27, his wife Glendolly Rose, 27, and their children Kaizer Lee, 6, and Kenzie Faye, 3. Their one-year-old son was with their relative when the fire broke out.
Sumait is assigned at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory while his wife works at the city hall's assessor's office.
Chief Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Eastern Police District (EPD) director, said the fire in Barangay Sto. Nino started around 2:47 a.m.
Quoting an initial report, Balba said the blaze came from a burger store beside the family's two-story house along Divino street.
Witnesses said the victims were trapped on the second floor of their house. They were not able to escape as the windows had iron grills.
The fire was put under control at around 3:12 am and doused by firefighters by 3:39 am. DMS
