March 27, 2020

Police personnel who refuse to go on duty during the enhanced community quarantine will be charged with AWOL (absence without leave) and be dismissed from service, said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Debold Sinas on Friday.

In a press briefing, Sinas said he always asks the district director for the status of their police personnel, especially those who are manning border and control points.

“Almost everyday I ask  the district (directors) how is our people? … and that is the guidance of our chief PNP (Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa), to account our people one to know their whereabouts and two if they are sick… we are tracing these people,” Sinas said.

“Those who will really AWOL will be dismissed because this is a national emergency… if they won’t report, automatic AWOL… those who will go AWOL, good luck to them while those who will be sick, we act on that because maybe they failed to report because they are sick,” he added.

Sinas said the NCRPO has 25,350 personnel.

“Now we have an actual deployment of 12,000 per shift… out of it we have still reserve and also our skeletal force (are) assigned in district headquarters and police stations,” he said.

“We have accounted all personnel since March 15 to date, we have accounted our personnel and four were unaccounted… we are already looking for them,” he added.

Sinas also said they set up 49 border quarantine control points while 120 are internal quarantine control points in Metro Manila. Ella Dionisio/DMS
