January 14, 2019
A couple on their honeymoon drowned while they were snorkeling in the Maldives on Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday.
The 30-year-old man and 29-year-old woman, who are overseas workers from Laguna, were married on December 18 and left for their honeymoon on January 9 in the Maldives. Their names were not revealed by the DFA.
The couple were guests at a resort in Dhiffushi Island and were snorkeling when they started drowning, the DFA said. They were rescued by resort workers but were pronounced and dead on arrival at a hospital.
The DFA said they are in touch with relatives of the kin of the two and assured them of help to repatriate their remains. DMS
