Customs seize P2.1m worth of ecstasy at NAIA

The Bureau of Customs seized P2.157 million worth of ecstasy at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) before turning it over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) Friday.
According to the Bureau of Customs, the 1,269 pieces of seized ecstasy came from the Netherlands through a certain G. Voorthuzen. The package marked as "lightbox" which arrived in October 2018 was examined by customs personnel after being left unclaimed for months.
Customs personnel discovered "three self-sealing plastic bags of ecstasy tablets." The acquired tablets were confirmed as illegal drugs after being turned over to the PDEA.
BOC said an estimated P28.381 million total worth of ecstasy seized in NAIA.
"This includes 962 pieces of ecstasy from the Netherlands in April, 1,003 pieces of ecstasy from Germany in July, and 14,730 pieces ecstasy from France in August – the highest recorded ecstasy seizure of the port in 2018," BOC said in a statement. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
