Davao City reports no casualties from quake

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said there are no casualties in the city following a 6.3 magnitude tremor that hit portions of Mindanao Wednesday evening.

In an interview over ANC on Thursday, Duterte said the local government has yet to receive any reports of dead or missing persons.

"We're okay. We have no reports of dead or missing here in Davao City," the mayor said.

She urged citizens to inspect their establishments and facilities to determine and avoid possible further damage caused by the earthquake.

"Everyone is mandated to inspect their own establishments and residential facilities to see if there are cracks, if there are buildings in danger of collapsing, or if there are electrical connections that were damaged," she ordered.

Classes in all levels of in private and public schools, from kindergarten to post graduate studies, were suspended earlier by the Davao City mayor.

"The 6.3 magnitude earthquake, which happened at 7:48 tonight, may have caused structural and electrical damage to buildings and houses," Duterte said in a statement Wednesday evening.

"All school owners, teachers, and other school personnel are hereby instructed to subject school structures to a safety inspection with a qualified engineer tomorrow," she added. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
