Dela Rosa said UNHRC misled on deaths in war vs drugs

July 12, 2019

Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa said the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) were given misleading information on the number of extra judicial killings under the administration's anti-drug campaign.

"The information they got says 27,000 individuals were killed in the war on drugs but the real numbers presented by PNP (Philippine National Police) and Malacanang only had 6,000. There's a huge difference," the former PNP chief said in an interview.

Dela Rosa told the UNHRC to ''go here so you can know that you were fooled by your sources.''

''You were misled by these people who want to bring the government down. The information given to you included those who died in vehicular accidents and those who died due to heart problems that's why it reached 27k," he added.

Dela Rosa said he is open for a probe but he challenged the UNHRC to investigate the 27,000 cases one-by-one and prove these were casualties of the government's drug war.

"I challenge them. You produce these 27k cases, including those who gave you the information. Don't lump it all up and come up with a conclusion," he said.

Dela Rosa said he is willing to get his head cut off if the probe proves that the killings were state-sponsored.

"They want to make it look like all of it were state-sponsored. I will let my head cut off if this is state-sponsored. Come here and cut my head off if the alleged EJKs were state-sponsored," he added.

Dela Rosa said sources of information submitted to the council wanted to bring the government down.

He added the killings can't be state-sponsored since the PNP has cleansed its ranks and arrested erring policemen. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
